I’ve identified as a Creative long before taking it on as a title within the halls of the inventive agencies I've had the good fortune of working with over the years; including BBDO, DMB&B, JWT, Saatchi & Saatchi, TBWAChiatDay, and Y&R.
Experience working overseas (Australia, Singapore, China) taught me that although Creative is nuanced and localized, the same underlying principles of people connecting with people hold true.
That, and— good Creative is thoughtful.
Ideas can be clever or straightforward in style, loud or quiet in feel, bold or subtle in delivery; no matter the approach, good Creative has purpose and meaning. It makes people feel something, think something, do something. True around the world, and true across industries, departments, and mediums.
Growing up in a home where my Dad owned his own business, I was exposed early on to the mechanics of a company. Becoming familiar with the ins and outs of P&Ls, KPIs, and ROI, while learning how one’s Brand, Product, and Marketing work together to generate awareness and growth. I still think this established my understanding of how great Creative is good business.
I also recognized early on— being inspired, and inspiring others brings me immense joy.
I have an insatiable appetite for new ideas, styles and approaches; and a deep admiration for other minds taking something old and making it their own— or creating something entirely new from nothing at all. While I draw endless inspiration from daily blog binging, regular reading, and enthusiastic observation of the world around me; it's most fun coming from the teams I've had the honor of leading and working alongside. There is nothing more exciting than helping others get their ideas out into the world.
It feels like my career has been one long quest to expand the world through ideas and design. Of taking the smallest of concepts and growing them into programs, platforms, and experiences. The accolades received, award shows judged, board seats filled, and panels spoken on, have all been amazingly supportive moments along the way.
