It's the realization of Thomas Pynchon's protagonist in The Crying of Lot 49—a satirical novel on how mass media and big business suppress independent thoughts and freedoms. The quote has become a clever tagline for www.sixbillion.org, a website created to give equal airtime to everyone's stories [all six billion of us], regardless of the medium or message. Virtuoso interactive designer Thiago Demello Bueno of New York built the site to accommodate six different forms of storytelling: illustration, text, sound, photography, film, and interactive stories. Paid for by individual donations and supported by the Niemann Conference on Narrative Journalism [Harvard University]. Submit! No estimate yet on when all six billion will be complete.
